Jonah and Job:The Good, the Bad, and the Rebellious
Throughout history, there have been numerous works of literature created and passed on from generation to generation. When reading these various stories, one can point out several different themes that show up in different instances. One of the oldest and most popular works that is present in our culture today is the Christian Bible. Two stories that you can pull out a certain theme from within the Bible are the stories of Jonah and Job. One theme that is present in both of these books is that people do not have the knowledge that God has. Even though Jonah and Job felt differently about God, neither one of them knew exactly what God was trying to prove in the stories. They had no idea that the big picture would turn out exactly how God had planned all along. In the story of Jonah, God asked Jonah to go to Nineveh. God wanted him to go to protest the wickedness of Ninevehs people. Jonah had no idea why God would ask him to go there when he hated all of them, so Jonah decided to run from God by going to Tarshish instead. God didn’t let Jonah get away so easily. While Jonah was on a boat on the way to Tarshish, a great storm comes up and his shipmates figure that something evil had to have been on board for God to create such a storm.
