The most important factor in effective persuasion is communication in all its different venues. Starting with language as a mean to express ourselves with others, followed by TV, advertisement, politics, books, newspapers and son. I will talk about the origin of the word and meaning and use since then by illustrating it with what we do as an individual on our daily life, in our society and by quoting others and their understanding of effective persuasion. Persuasion is something we all do all the time, the company that offers excellent benefits if you work for them day and night, having the great opportunity of an important professional promotion. When a father promised to his son the last computer game if he passes the exams with good grades, or a better and improved health services if we vote for a particular political group. Persuasion originates from the Greek pathos, also called pathetic or emotional proofs, “is the persuasion of audiences by using emotions” as defined by the Greek philosopher Aristotle. In media has been defined as “the co-production of meaning that results when an individual or a group of individuals uses language strategies and or visual image to make audiences identify with that individual or group”. These two definitions make clear that in order to be persuasive we must appeal to the ethics, emotions and reasoning of our audience.
