Even though Darwin and Galileo both lived during different time periods (The 19th and 16th Centuries respectively), they both shared the common argument regarding in their defense that the free exchange of ideas was essential for progress to be achieved in all areas of life. In Galileo’s time, little was known about the universe and the accounts of the Bible was the only accepted explanations. When Galileo published his “Letters to the Grand Duchess Christina”, he expressed his views and his interpretation of the Bible, and many believed that his interpretation was of a Protestant view.
