Set in the rugged terrain of the Australian out-back, Mad Max delivers shock after shock of amazing film action, suspense, and endearing characters. The hero, Max Rockatansky, is a police officer fighting crime in the not too distant future. In this grim depiction of what life could be like, we find that even the Justice Department occupies a dilapidated building and the violence-beaten cities are home to criminal motorcycle gangs. As the story goes, Max quits the police force after the sudden death of his partner and best friend, Goose, to pursue a restful vacation with is wife and infant son. This luxury is short lived, for the motorcycle gangs catch up on them, and tragically kill Max’s wife and son. Burned out on grief, Max takes to the road to revenge upon the Toe-Cutter, the man that took everything from him. What is more than a suspenseful story line is the breath-taking special effects in a decade where such realistic actions were seldom found.
