Edgar Linton Edgar represents the conventional morality which Catherine and Heathcliff deny. He is viewed as a resident of Thrushcross Grange and he does not relocate throughout his life but is raised and dies here. As his wife, Catherine must move to the Grange, where Edgar is the master and patriarch. His inheritance, unlike that of Heathcliff, is legitimate and he is an educated man. In many ways, Edgar is governed by materialism; we need only examine the description of Thrushcross grange to appreciate the environment which characterises him. He is defined as ‘a doll’, and a ‘spoiled child’. His character is consistent and his love for Catherine devoted and traditional. Linton Heathcliff Linton Heathcliff is the offspring of Isabella Linton and Heathcliff, such an unnatural union that he himself is doomed to fail. He has inherited the worst character traits from both parents. He is manipulated by Heathcliff and dies, tended only by Cathy.
