This might sound horrible to most of you, but this is reality for those who are burdened with the destructive mental disease schizophrenia. B. Relevance: Schizophrenia remains a mystery that has fascinated the greatest minds of psychiatry and neuroscience for hundreds of years. It is a disabling condition with the age onset of men (15-25) and women (25-35). But symptoms can start as early as age 12. 1.3 % of the population is diagnosed with schizophrenia. It is a life crippling disease and is almost impossible to live with. At least half of the schizophrenia population will try to committee suicide or resort to drugs as a way to escape there disease. C. As a psychology student in High School I became very intrigued in topic of schizophrenia. I was given a chance to talk to a individual diagnosed with schizophrenia and realized the severity of the disease. D.
