Illegal Immigrants. What is the Best Way to Deal with the Problem? “Two face murder charges in immigrant smuggling.” (Castro A-9). “Document Mexican official says soldiers shot at truck | 6 people wounded in border incident.” (Cearley B-4). “Motorist finds body of border crosser.” (Wisniewski B-2). “Official: Smugglers drugging immigrants | Attempt to beat desert heat can be fatal, experts warn.” (Kammer B-1). “Five suspected illegal immigrants found dead | Bodies recovered in sun-baked desert.” (Gross B-6). Those headlines have became so common on the newspapers, that they probably don’t even surprise us anymore!. They are reminders of an ordinary phenomenon going on not only in this country, but also around the globe. Such headlines show clearly that illegal immigration won’t stop soon. Some see immigrants just as people who have violated this nation’s borders. Others might see them as a threat to national security. A few armed ranchers in Arizona have even taken matters into their own hands by apprehending illegal immigrants themselves before turning them over the Border Patrol. But honestly, different than the motives behind drug trafficking or terrorism, -the overall majority of illegal immigrants are looking for jobs. As stated by Jorge Ramos, one of the world’s most popular Spanish-language television news broadcasters: “Yet the view toward America from immigrants who want nothing more than to feed and clothe and educate their children remains intact and as strong as ever.” (P.XVI). Putting away any nationalistic sentiment and any racial prejudice, I am among the ones who firmly believe that people should see the contributions immigrants are making to this country. I my opinion, illegal immigrants not only support their own families, their jobs are also helping the economy of American families regardless of careless governments.
