Reflection: Immersion in Tarucan
|

|
It was fine and sunny morning of Saturday, August 31, 2003. The group of fourth year management student of College of the Holy Spirit went in the place of the Aetas in Tarucan for a two days immersion. For eight hours walking in lahars, eight hours walking under the heat of the sun, a very tiring moment with a limited supply of water, living far with your family and living with the people whom we do not know is one of the most sacrificing moments in our lives. However, inspite of these sacrifices there are many lessons we learned and experiences that we need to reflect. Before my teacher told us that we are required to go to Tarucan for immersion, I have always wanted to see what it would be like in living with the aetas and to experience another culture. It has always been a dream for me to go to a missionary work and to live with other people with different cultures and tradition, and this gave me the opportunity to get a small taste of what it might involve. I did not know how excited I am in going there for a two days exposure. How I love to see them and teach them the different things that they do not know especially the things we learned from the school. I want to experience also living with a simple life without the material things we had in our everyday life. In short, I want to live with a peaceful and simple environment. We went there as a group, and that group turns into a one family because of the experiences we had especially an eight hours walking in lahar. During that moment, I thought that we could not make it because it is very far and we are all tired of walking, but my classmates never gave up instead we are happy and we feel blessed because we had the opportunity to test our patience and to make bonding with each other. During that moment, I feel that god really loves me because I know he was there to give me strength and to tell me that this little sacrifice gave such learning and experience that I will treasure for the rest of my life. I know that we had a mission to fulfill. I was very touch also with my classmates because we both feel the importance and care of each other. Especially the time that we almost tired in walking, they gave you the courage and strength not to give up because we all know that we have the mission and we had our brothers and sisters in the mission who is waiting for us.
