Great Figures in Ethics
Martin Luther King was born on the 15th January 1929 and died in 1968. His mission in life was to serve others and to help black people be able to live in harmony with white people. His visions and goals were simple- he wanted complete liberation and freedom of mankind and the elimination of injustices that were put upon blacks. He was born into a country that was divided in white and black. His family home was in Georgia (Atlanta) and as a child he was educated in Atlanta before going to Atlanta University and then to Morehouse College and completed his education on 1953. He attained his PhD in 1955. He wanted change for the black people and freedom for them. He believed all human beings were equal and fought for racial equality. He was definitely inspired by Mahatma Gandhi for his struggle to free India from the British rule. In 1963 Martin Luther King was taken to jail for confronting the justice system in America and in 1968 was assassinated Many black people believed his death was the fault of the us federal Government, FBI, and Federal agencies. Martin Luther King made many difficult decisions in his life, but he truly believed in his belief that Black and white people should be treated with respect and dignity and that there should not be any segregation between any people. He relied heavily on the support of his family, but most of all his supporters, mainly black people who truly looked up to him as a mentor. One could ask what were his religious beliefs? Martin Luther king believed that God created man equally, whether they were white or black and he believed that racial discrimination was not the way god had wanted America to be. I believe Martin Luther king was an honest, caring and religious man who truly wanted America to be united. He was a strong believer in faith and this was carried through when he made crucial decisions when questioning what the American Government were doing to black people. Mahata Gandhi was born on 2nd October 1869 and died 30th January 1948. He was born in Gujarat, Western India and was married at the age of 13 years.
