Danny is portrayed as a good respectable Hasidic Jew. He studies his Talmud, he was raised in silence, he follows what he is told. But Danny sees himself as trapped and locked away. He does not get to do all the things a regular boy or girl can do. He is tucked away through his father. Danny’s life has already been planned; he is to become the next Rabbi, a great responsibility. But even though he feels trapped by his father he really isn’t, because his father helps him achieve his goals and desires. One of the most noticeable ways of Danny’s entrapment being leavened is when he met Rueven Malter. The series of events that brought Danny and Rueven together we severe but they became friends this ment that Danny would have to get his fathers approval of his new friend. Danny’s father is very very protective of his son and that is a main reason why Danny has few friends. But this was different he was not a part of the Hasidic family Danny was raised in, he was an “outsider”, and a very different one at that.
