Bowlby [1951] Separation-: this is most commonly short term this may be the result of a child attending nursery, or being with a carer on a tempory basis while its mother is in hospital or has been institutionalised within a secure environment. In some cases this can result in the child displaying signs of distress. Study investigations have shown these signs appear more evident in children who had experienced deprivation. Deprivation is the conclusion of a disrupted attachment from a maternal figure through separation. The source of this could be a number of reasons including illness, death or even murder. If the child has had the misfortune to witness such a malicious attack on maternal figure, which resulted in death, as a consequence of this is the child may become very distressed and protesting with signs of bitterness and bewilderment this can progress to despair if the child no longer anticipates its mothers return.
