Linus Pauling
Linus Pauling Linus Pauling was a physical chemist, who developed the theory of the chemical bond, and was also a political activist for peace, who won 2 Nobel Peace Prizes, one for chemistry and one for peace. His work in developing the theory of the chemical bond was a very important part of developing atomic theory because it opened up new options for other scientists and contemporaries of the time. Linus Carl Pauling was born in Portland, Oregon, on February 28, 1901. As a child, Linus was always interested in reading anything he could get his hands on, but became most interested in anything that had to do with science and would fill his room up performing simple experiments. He went to college at Oregon State University, and after much financial trouble, succeeded in graduating from the University and moved onto, the California Institute of Technology where he researched X-ray analysis of crystals, and eventually wrote a paper called "The Crystal Structure of Molybendite", which was published in the Journal of American Chemical Society in 1923, and also began his great quest into the rarely researched world of the atomic theory.
