Depictions of Infants’ and Toddlers’ Behavior
Stranger anxiety is a refection of the efforts of object permanence, which refers to the ability of the brain to retain and utilize visual images. At around eight months, the child will be exhibiting signs of separation anxiety when the mother leaves the room. Separation anxiety or separation fear is the phase of intense fear that infants and toddlers experience as part of the normal development of the understanding that parents can be trusted to return to them. The ultimate cure for separation anxiety is simply the fact that mother always return, and babies will learn that by experiences. Remember that object permanence is a feature of visual memory.
