Erin Brockovich, an American movie based on a true story, relates how a twice-divorced mother of three young children discovers an injustice and gradually builds up the case in a court. In fact, after finding medical reports in real estate dispute files, she discovers that PG&E, a huge firm, contaminates water in a local community causing diseases amid its residents. Troughout the movie, PG&E did things that were not socially responsible and ethical, so did the attorneys, but Erin Brockovich behaved in another particular way. As a matter of fact, PG&E had a responsibility to society as a whole. Their business is actually seen as an entity, and they must feel a social responsibility. It means that managers must actively promote social justice, preserve the environment, and support social and cultural activities. They did not respect it as they contaminated water in the local community which caused devastating illness among its residents. In that way, their behavior was not socially responsible in so far as they pursued their goal without caring about what was good for society. They only pursued their economic interests at the lowest possible cost. What is more, they abused from their influence toward the residents of Hinkley.
