Visit to the Museum Black-Figure Amphora Side A: Athena Side B: Horsemen Greek, Attic, Ceramic, c. 540B.C. Joseph Veach Noble Collection 86.24 “The decorative elements of this vase associate it with the Panathenaia. On the observe Athena is seen striding, wearing a crested helmet and aegis, and carrying a shield and a spear. On the reverse is a scene of a horse racing, with two riders jockeying their horses to victory. The lack of columns training Athena and the missing inscription mean that the Amphora was not an official prize.
