The media such as television and billboards influences all children in some way or another. This media attention to unrealistic or harmful ideals can send messages to children causing them to believe that they must act, dress, and look a curtain way or they will not be accepted in today’s society. It can also have an effect on telling them who they should be, what should be their focus in life, what values they should have, and who their role models are. Such attention to this type of negative actions and ideals can produce a harmful set of values in a child. These traits, whether they are linguistic, physical, or moral, can influence the way a child thinks looks and acts while growing up. The music industry can have both a negative and a positive influence on a young adolescence. The majority of rap music, for example, is based on violence; whether it is domestic, drug related, gang related, or sexual. The men wear gangster clothes with gangster colors and they are usually carrying a weapon of some sort. The women are dressed or barely dressed in a way that insinuates a sexual atmosphere. Children get a bad perspective of life from watching these videos or just listening to the music. Girls think they have to dress in a curtain way to get a boy to like them or just to be accepted. This type of music can lead girls to think that the only thing they can look forward to is sexual abuse, raising fatherless children, drug-dealing boyfriends, and expect to be treated with disrespect and taken for granted. Boys think that they have to carry a weapon to get respect from anyone and led to believe the only way to get the feeling of acceptance, self worth and a sense of identity is by joining a gang. Also, that the only way to make a lot of money and drive a nice car with good-looking women is by selling drugs. Country music is the most positive music for children. Most of the songs and videos have a positive story behind them and usually gives a good message for them to learn from.
