Sexual Harassment GEN 101 Skills for Lifelong Learning 1 UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX TREVOR ANTOINE TREVOR.ANTOINE@AMEDD.ARMY.MIL 13 October 2003 Sexual Harassment can be detrimental to a business and cause many emotional problems, which can lead to personal problems outside the workforce. The issue of sexual harassment has put many reputable name to shame that was involved in such thing. The President of the United States, Sergeant Major of the Army, movie stars on down to teachers at schools name has been publicized and careers jeopardize from allegations. Leotis is going to be analyzing a situation that arisen at his workplace in regards to sexual harassment. He must determine if the complaint that was filed constitute as sexual harassment. If it was sexual harassment what are the proper procedures to file the complaint. A female employee who’s a nurse had gone into her male supervisor’s office to talk to him about a situation. It was normal for employees to go in the office and shut the door. The office was a small office with no windows therefore it was closed and secure. The supervisor had approached her with a sexual advance, blocking the door preventing her from leaving the employee had made attempts to leave with some resistance. This wasn’t the first time that such incident had happen. There were many complaints put in and nothing done about it. This is something that should never be tolerated at any workplace. Not knowing if the process was followed correctly before it draws any attention. This particular incident sparked the interest of the command to investigate. A unit has protocols in place for such incidents that arise. The commander appoints personnel who are within the unit with an unbiased decision to take written sworn statements. The investigator takes the information to the military and civilians advisors and then to JAG (Judge Advocate General.) The Jag determines if the incident falls within sexual harassment and what actions should be taken. Every military unit has an EO advisor to the commander (equal opportunity.) The advisor consults and recommend to the command what action if needed to take. The commander chooses a person in the unit based off of character and then sent to a two-week school on how to deal and address such matters. The complaint is sent to the installation commander further up to the chain of command. If it involves a civilian it can be taken to court and a lawsuit can be filed. The personnel accused of the incident ended up been transferred to another unit.
