To be a champion, one must possess a champion mentality. To rise above the competition, an athlete must exhibit hard work, discipline, and total dedication. The glory on the field directly reflects the commitment set forth off the field. Chris Lock is one athlete who knows exactly what it takes to be a champion. “Agghhh,” Chris shouts as he uses every ounce of strength in his body to complete one last rep. “Not bad, how many was that?” “Twelve. I’m just warming up though.” Twelve reps of 185 and he was just “warming up”? I looked around the weight room and saw some kids that could not do twelve push-ups, let alone twelve reps. Chris racked the twenty-five pound weights and substituted them with forty-five pound plates. “How much do you have here?” “225,” he replied. “Watch me rep this out. Can you give me a spot?” I stood at the head of the bench and gave Chris a lift-off. The bar touched his chest and with almost no effort, his arms fully extended and pressed the weight. Chris was now drawing a small, curious, and encouraging audience. He dropped the weight for a second, third, and forth rep.
