While the narrator is called to Marla’s apartment to examine her breast for cancer, Tyler is blackmailing his boss, the president of the projectionist union, threatening to expose all of his doctored films. Tyler’s boss agrees to give him his paycheck every week, in return for not exposing his secrets. The narrator uses a similar method to get his paycheck from his boss at the Pressman Hotel.
