Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman is one of the best known conductors of the Underground Railroad. She was known as the “Moses of Her People.” Her wisdom guided many slaves to freedom. Harriet Tubman was compassionate and a leader. She risked her life guiding her people from slavery to freedom. In my paper I will make certain comparison about Jesus and Harriet’s leadership. Nazareth of Galilee is the town where Jesus grew up. Jesus was a normal Jew. Jesus had the custom of wearing something to symbolize his work. Jesus wore a piece of wood to indicate him being a carpenter. Jesus had four brothers named Joseph, James, Simon and Jude, along with several sisters (Matthew 13:55 and Mark 6:3). “Jesus followed the lifestyle of the class, which he belonged. Together with the people he experienced the working class. He read various books of the Old Testament. Jesus had his own ideas about what was wanted by the Jewish religion. January of the year 28 Jesus leaves his family and joins the religious community of John. After three days of traveling would bring Jesus to the town of Jericho. Jesus traveled with John the Baptist. February of 28 year John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. This would clean away sin. Jesus remained with a group never alone”( A Life of Jesus) Jesus was a miracle worker. Jesus change water into wine while seating at a wedding. Jesus was compared to John the Baptist because of his style of teaching. Jesus spoke about the kingdom of God and his love. Jesus image of God is love who comes himself to experience the sorrows of humankind. Jesus realized that his own life was a problem. How were men and woman discovering reality of the human life, the genuine love of God? Jesus felt that God had sent him into the world to answer this question, and he realized that many painful obstacles must be overcame to carry out his mission. Jesus biggest obstacle was his death. Jesus had to die on the cross for our sins. “Harriet Ross was born in Dorchester County, Maryland in 1820. Her parents were from the Ashanti tribe of West Africa, and they worked as slaves on the Brodas plantation. In addition to producing lumber, Edward Brodas raised slaves to the rent and sell. Life was difficult on the plantation, and Harriet was hired out as a laborer by the age of 5”( Harriet Tubman.) Harriet did not like to work indoors, and she was routinely beaten by her masters. By her early teens, Harriet was no longer allowed to work indoors and was hired out as a field slave. She was a hard worker but considered a sense of rebellious. When she was 15 years old, Harriet tried to help a runaway slave. The overseer hit her in the head with a lead weight, which put Harriet in a coma. It took months for her to recover, and for the rest of her life, Harriet suffered form blackouts. “In 1844, Harriet married a free black man named John Tubman. Harriet remained a slave, but she was able to stay in Tubman’s cabin at night. Although she was married, Harriet lived in fear of being shipped to the deep South, a virtual death sentence for a slave. In 1849, her fears were realized when the owner of the Brodas plantation died and many of the slaves were scheduled to be sold.
