John 7:53-8:11
“Between the Rock and a Hard Place” The Bible is the infallible Word of God, a work that will endure forever. The Lord looked down on His world and selected specific followers that, based on their love, desire, and followership, He deemed worthy enough to communicate for Him. These people were divinely touched, and thus they communicated the Word of the Lord, which became the Holy Bible. Is it possible then, that part of the Bible is a mistake? The verses in John 7:53-8:1 are questioned by scholars. Are these passages the Word of the Lord, and do they belong in the Bible? To examine this situation I will look at some of the details of why it is questioned and why it was added. When it comes to whether or not these verses should be included, these details have left Christians figuratively in the exact same place John 7:53-8:1 places the adulterous woman…between the rock and a hard place. There are several fine points that need to be considered. It is almost certain that the verses are not a part of John’s original gospel. The verses are not included in most of the earliest Greek manuscripts, and when they are included, they can be found in different places within John or even in Luke.
