For my History project I choose our 37th president, Richard M. Nixon. Richard Mulhouse Nixon was born in Yorba Linda, a farming village in Orange County, CA on Jan.9,1913. Nixon was the second of five sons. Hi9s fathers name was Francis Anthony Nixon and his mother=s name was Hannah Mihous Nixon. Nixon=s father came from a Scotch-Irish farming family. Nixon=s father was born in Ohio after six years of school he started to work. Francis Nixon was a street car motorman and because it was so cold in Ohio he moved to Whittier, CA a much warmer climate. Whittier was a Quaker settlement that was founded in 1901. That=s where he meet his soon to be wife Hannah Mihous. Hannah was one of nine children she moved to California in 1897. Francis and Hannah meet at a Quaker meting house party in Feb.1908. Then they married four months later and had there first son Harold Nixon in 1909. A year before Nixon was born his father bought land in Yorba Linda. He built a house and started to grow a lemon grove. The last two son=s were also born in Yorba Linda. The lemon business was unsuccessful they had ten hard years trying to bare with little money but eventually moved back to Whittier. When they got back Francis Nixon built a small gas station then bought a old meetinghouse which was used as a grocier store and home when the boys were old enough they worked and helped.
