NEW YORK- In a statement released yesterday by the United Nations, Canada has been determined to be the world’s leading nation in terms of a functioning society. In determining this the UN looked at how the diversity of races, cultures, and religions within a country interact and contribute to the economic and social climate therein. Seventy countries from across the globe were studied and rated in a large number of categories. Ethnic in-fighting, crime, racial equality legislation, and economic stability were just a few of the subjects examined. The committee responsible for the adjudication was made up of Nobel Peace Prize winners, international diplomats and respected journalists. Of particular interest, as stated in the release, is the fairly recent development of the Canadian aboriginal population’s social and economic triumphs. Up until ten years ago the native Canadians were heavily dependant on the national government, yet the vast majority lived in squalor.
