Christianity and Buddhism
The principal beliefs of a person is responsible for the morals they hold upon themselves is defined as one’s religion. Henry Whitehead puts it best in saying, “Religion is … something that gives meaning to all that passes and yet eludes comprehension…” The most popular religions today are Christianity and Buddhism. Christianity with its primary strength in the west, centers on the belief that Jesus Christ lies as the Messiah sent from God with a final destination for followers being one of Heaven; a blissful incarnation of all that is responsible for happiness, a uniting with the Lord in his kingdom. Buddhism, more prevalent in the east, is based upon the teachings of Buddha, which includes the four noble truths. If one lives by the four noble truths, and has good karma, they will reach spiritual “nirvana”, or ultimate happiness and enlightenment through meditation and religious practices.
