Many people have told me: “you never know what you have until you lose it.” I have never supported this idea, thanks to one person: my mother. When I was five months old, my father passed away; since that day, Mom assumed the role of mother and father in my house. Until this day she still fulfills that role. On December 19, 1989, the United States invaded Panama. Nonetheless on Christmas night I received all I had asked “Santa” for. Even though all stores and banks were closed, the city secured by military troops, there she was, on time as always, pleasing her two children. Despite having concentrated her time and attention on the two of us, my mother has always found special moments to help people in needs, particularly cancer patients.
