First Samuel Chapter three verse one tells us, “And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. The word precious in this verse is found in the Strong’s concordance with the Hebrew Dictionary number 3368. It is from the Hebrew word transliterated “yaqar”. (Pronounced yaw-kawr) The etymology of this Hebrew word is as follows. It comes from the word transliterated “yaqar” (number 3365 in the Strong’s concordance) meaning to be heavy, valuable, or to inhibit. Yaqar is the primary root. The definition of “yaqar” in the Hebrew language is brightness, clear, costly, excellent, fat, honourable women, precious, reputation. The word brightness is used in Job 31:26. The word Clear is used in Zechariah 14:6. The word costly is used in 1 Kings 5:17, 1 Kings 7:9, 1 Kings 7:10, 1 Kings 7:11. The word excellent is used in Psalms 36:7. The word fat is used in Psalms 37:20. The word honorable woman is used in Psalms 45:9.
