Why was Quarry Bank Mill so successful? There are many reasons why the Quarry Bank Mill was so successful, I will try to identify all the main ideas why it was so profitable and popular. In 1783 a man called Samuel Greg travelled into the countryside around Manchester searching for a suitable fast-flowing river where he could build a new mill. Soon Samuel found the perfect place to construct his mill, located in Styal just north of Wilmslow. Samuel had learnt lots of business skills from his uncle and when his uncle died, Samuel continued the family business and set up a cotton mill. This cotton mill was named Quarry Bank Mill. The skills that Samuel had learnt from his uncle were definitely going to be an advantage to him in his later life.
