Baroque and Classical Music
The Baroque and Classical Eras in European History were very much related to each other but contained very large differences that lead to distinctions. As many time periods the actual dates for each period are hard to distinguish but the Baroque Period can be placed in between the years of 1600 and 1750 while the Classical Period can be placed between the years of 1750 and 1825. These dates are not concrete dates as Baroque Era arts existed before and after the dates listed as did Classical Era arts to its dates. Each Era contains its own characteristics and participants. The Baroque Era was a period of colonization and political wars in which many famous thinkers existed, including Sir Isaac Newton. The actual word Baroque comes from the Portuguese word barroco, which can be defined as an irregular bulbous shaped pearl. The original meaning of the word can be used to describe the actual time period as the Baroque Period was characterized by much “theatricalism, of grandiose concepts, by a rather heavy elaboration of design, and magnificence of effect” (Miller).
