On Sunday, I attended Jazz on 6th street for a concert. The band? A small trio known simply as “The East Coast Jazz.” The restaurant was nearly empty on a wet, chilly Sunday night in October, but for a few stray students who failed to get their kicks on Saturday, and one or two apparent jazz enthusiasts. The atmosphere of the 6th street venue was pleasant if not incredibly original, decorated with a plethora of New Orleans style artwork and Mardi Gras paraphernalia, a piano shaped plant box dangling from the high, tiled ceiling, which retains its 1930’s style and craftsmanship, and helps to give the establishment a sense of oldness—a good compliment to the jazz theme. A small stage sat squarely in the center of the front wall of the restaurant, providing a good view from any seat in the house.
