Microsoft(r) Encarta(r) Encyclopedia 2000 Readme, Rev A Thank you for purchasing Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2000. This README file contains information that was not included in on-screen Help for Encarta Encyclopedia. These notes, instructions, and tips will help you get the most out of Encarta Encyclopedia and your system. You can print this file by opening it in any word processing program for the Microsoft Windows(r) operating system and choosing the Print command from the File menu. Please send these comments by Fax, U.S. mail, or e-mail. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS System requirements for Encarta Encyclopedia Deluxe 2000 are listed below the requirements for Encarta Encyclopedia 2000. -------------------------------------- To use Encarta Encyclopedia 2000, you need: * Multimedia PC with a Pentium or higher processor. * Microsoft Windows 95 operating system, Windows 98 operating system, or Windows NT Workstation version 4.0 operating system or later. * 16 MB of memory (RAM) for Windows 95 or Windows 98; 24 MB RAM for Windows NT. * 35 MB of available hard disk space for the initial setup. * MPC-Level 2 compliant quad-speed (4X) or faster CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive. * Super VGA, 256-color or higher monitor supporting 640 X 480 or higher resolution (800 X 600 screen resolution is recommended). * Local bus video with 1 MB or more of video memory recommended. * Microsoft Mouse, Microsoft IntelliMouse, or compatible pointing device. * MPC-Level 2 compliant 16-bit sound card with speakers or headphones. To use Encarta Yearbook, Web Links, and monthly online updates, you need: * A 14.4-baud modem. * Access to the Internet. To use Read Aloud/Text-To-Speech (TTS), you need: * 9 MB of additional hard disk space. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- SETTING UP ENCARTA ENCYCLOPEDIA ON YOUR COMPUTER Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 Setup installs system files that may be shared with other programs. To prevent conflicts during Setup, it is important to quit all open programs and close all open windows before installing the encyclopedia.
