Specific Purpose: To inform the audience about how African-Americans integrated in to NFL. Organizational Pattern: Topical Introduction I. Attention Getting Device: Everyone remembers players Walter Peyton, O. J. Simpson, and Lawrence Taylor. Have you ever wondered how African-Americans got into the NFL? If you have, you’re about to find out. II. Orientation Phase: A. Point: Today I am going to inform you on African-Americans in NFL history B. Adaptation: Most of us who watch football watch it because it is entertaining. I want to share this with you just so you can appreciate the history of the sport. I also want you to know how society impacted the sport. C. Credibility: My grandfather was in college and he played football and because of the color barrier he did not even have a chance to get into the NFL until he was past his prime. So I researched to get sort of a background of the color barrier and to learn some history of football. D. Enumerated Preview: Through my research I came up with three time periods of the racial conflicts in football history: 1920-1933, 1933-1946, and 1946-present.
