International Buy Nothing Day
One theorist comes to mind when I think of International Buy Nothing Day: Schumacher. I find his theory of the Buddhist Economy to be very interesting. The Buddhist Economy is the complete opposite of our capitalist system. Everything from replacing humans with machines, to laying off workers for profit are forbidden. Schumacher would support Buy Nothing Day. The idea behind the event is that we should reconsider our attachment to buying goods, especially when the reason behind the buying season is a religious holiday. One idea I wish he had covered more was his claim that those who use non-renewable resources are parasites to the world. I feel that the American way of life is destined to one of two things: Non-sustainability or complete collapse.
