A Midsummer Nights Dream explains the difficulty of love and it's imbalance. Helena stood out as a lovesick young woman, who is extremely insecure about herself. Helena's perception of love is shown throughout the play. Helena was engaged to Demetrius until Demetrius met Helena's best friend, Hermia, and fell in love with her. This leaves Helena to be unsure of herself. Since Helena is the only one left out of the love triangle at the beginning of the play, she is the one who thinks the most about the nature of love.
