TEEN PREGNANCY INTRODUCTION ATTENTION GAINER: According to the 2002 Fact sheet of Planned Parenthood, in the U.S., it is common for our television shows to contain a scene devoting primary emphasis to sexual behavior, or a scene in which intercourse is depicted or strongly implied. Yet, funny enough…sexual precautions and the negative consequences of sexual behavior are rarely expressed. Is this the right kind of example for the youth of America? LINK ATTENTION GAINER TO TOPIC: Although the Planned Parenthood is an organization devoted to educating and supporting sexual issues, it brings up the fact that the media has influence over an important issue today in America- TEEN PREGNANCY. SIGNIFICANCE/THESIS: The Alan Guttmacher Institute is a nonprofit organization focused on sexual and reproductive health research, policy analysis and public education. In 1995 they stated that although the rate of teenage pregnancy in the United States has been declining, it remains the highest in the developed world…a greater proportion of teenage girls are at risk of becoming pregnant than ever before. PREVIEW: In order to explain to you a little bit more in depth about the TEEN PREGNANCY issue, I will first tell you some statistical information about pregnancy amongst teens, then I will get into why these statistics are the way they are, and finally what we can do as America to prevent Teen Pregnancy all together.
