Bartok Quartet No. 5 The overall structure of Bartok’s Quartet No. 5 is an arch form. The first, third, and fifth movements are fast, while the second and fourth are slow. The first movement can either be seen as a Sonata form or Rondo (see attached sheet). If perceived as a Rondo, it connects to the last movement, which is also in Rondo form. Another similarity is that the last movement uses the opening theme from movement 1 in measure 367 (see excerpt). The second and fourth movements are both arch forms within themselves, giving them similarity.
