Abstract The purpose of interviewing Mrs. O誰eal was to enhance the interviewer痴 skills and to learn about the management function of her organization. Mrs. O誰eal gave information about her personal life and how she had improved her career and became a manager without a college degree. Managing the Home and family Mrs. O誰eal has been married for 23 years and has a 19 year-old son who is studying computer science at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She goes to school full time at Mercer, taking three courses each session, and in addition works about 50 hours a week. Her husband, who is 52 and retired last year after a thirty-year career at Bell South, manages the house to buy groceries, do the laundry and physically does the housework with the help of a housekeeper who cleans once a week. He even sets the alarm for 5:30 A.M., wakes her, and prepares the shower. Employment History and Advancement to become a Manager Mrs. O誰eal revealed that she has had a career as an accountant for twenty years and has been the Controller of the Southeast Specialty Millwork Company for the last five years. She began her career by applying for a computer job from a newspaper advertisement. She had no experience in computers, so the interviewer said she was not qualified for the job, but that there was an opening in Accounts Receivable. She started with no experience and after eighteen months was asked to head a new Purchasing Department. The responsibilities of managers of Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable were then added. After ten years, the CEO of Fisher Business Systems sold the company. He then purchased Southeast Specialty Mill Works and asked Mrs.
