Depression Although the cause of depression is not fully known, there are many reasons why doctors believe that certain people become depressed. As depression spreads, there is more and more research being done in all age group to find out why these people are suffering from depression. Twice as many women as men are suffering with depression, why? Men usually don’t get diagnosed with depression because they don’t like to talk about feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness. Is depression real or do we, as people, just need to pick ourselves up and move on with our lives and be successful? Depression can show its face in several different ways. There are people who may lose their appetite or eat all of the time. Other people may experience trouble sleeping or getting up very early in the morning. Women may cry more than usual and have feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness. Men may have these same feelings but they don’t talk about them as much as women do, therefore, men have a suicide rate four times that of women. Women have many hormonal factors that contribute to their increased rate of depressioin.
