Poverty, in my opinion, is strictly a function of resources (both available and attainable). An ocean view is readily available to someone on a beach. The view is also attainable for someone in Iowa, but some effort is necessary to get to the resource (ocean view). This is the first cause of poverty; a lack of desire or ability to attain the resource. Now there are some people in Iowa that have never heard of the ocean. This is the second cause of poverty; a lack of knowledge of the resource’s existence or ability to conceive a life that is different from the one that exists. Then you have the guy in Iowa who knows about the ocean and has an overwhelming desire to see it; he would do anything within his power to get there, but he is serving a life sentence in prison (he is innocent of any crime).
