Medieval Weapons
Medieval Weapons If one thing has played a role in changing the worlds history it would have to be the use of weapons. Without them empires would fall and people would go starving. The medieval time was a period where new weapon designs flourished. Some weapons that changed the course of history were the sword, siege weapons, and the use of bows and arrows. The first thing that comes to mind when you?re thinking of medieval heroes, like King Arthur and his knights of the round table is swords. No knight or adventurer left home without one. A sword is a symbol for power and prestige; they are made from strong metal and used to kill. There are many types of swords invented. The first sword, which became known as the bastard sword, was invented in the mid 1400?s (historicalweapons.com). The bastard sword is a long sword with special made grips for use with two hands. The blade on this sword is slightly narrower than the other types of swords and has finger rings to defend the bearers? hands. The bastard sword would be used by knights and men-at-arms until the 1500?s when it would be replaced by the side sword and the rapier. The next which is known as the long sword is a one handed sword which formed the basis of most surviving medieval fighting treatises.
