Should basketball players skip college to go to the nba.
In 1995, a high school senior, named Kevin Garnett, was the 5th selection in the draft and was successful in the NBA. Since then 22 players had followed his footsteps. Out of them 22 players only 6 got undrafted, 4 became good players, including Kevin Garnett, and Tracy McGrady, and 5 are showing sign that their going to make it successful. None of the top four picks of the 2001 draft have any college experience, as three high school players and one foreign import were all selected before Golden State drafted a collegian at No. 5, Michigan State guard Jason Richardson. In the 2003 season, Amare Stoudemire became the first high school player to be the NBA Rookie of The Year. So why is the NBA planning to raise the draft age and should high school seniors go to college or go straight to the NBA? There some people who don’t want high school players going straight to the pro. Some people saying that these kids need an education so just incase they’re not successful in the NBA that they have something else to back up. They also can go to college to sharpen their skills, get a national title, get most valuable player in college, then go to the NBA with more confident and skills. Also they are hurting the game of college basketball by skipping college. Most of the people who went to the NBA straight from high school are not mature enough and usually take them bout 3 to 4 seasons to develop to their potential. If Korleone Young went to college, he probably would have a successful NBA career but he skip college and wasn’t successful and now he is out of the NBA. It is important to get an education. With all the activities involved in the NBA, where they would find the time to go back to school.
