technical report of allam homes
Technical Report Abstract Page Title Allam’s Homes Technical Report Author: Date October 2003 Number of Page 5 As an e-business consultant I have prepared a Technial Report for Allam Homes. E-Business is not new. it is another way of improving efficiency and reducing costs by using electronic systems. As such, it is not a stand alone part of a business and has to be integrated with existing business processes, existing IT systems and be supported by the creation of a coherent e-culture across the company. This isn’t something that can be done overnight and takes a lot of time. The staggered adoption of these 5 stages (e-mail, web access a website and local/remote company networks) can work as a step-by-step strategy to e-Business, slowly introducing an e-Business culture to your company. At its most effective, e-Business will shorten the conventional delay from enquiries to replies, supply to sales and sales to delivery. The optimum set-up, with localised and remote networks, will go further still and reduce the gap between your company’s on-line presence and the electronic systems that you use to run the business, making the whole business run more smoothly, with less need for human involvement and less room for error. However, a gradual approach to the adoption of electronic methods is not only safer, with less risk of damaging the existing business practices, but it is also cheaper. Introduction the Allam Homes Allam Homes is one of Australia’s largest residential construction companies specialising in the building and development of home and land packages, contract construction and complete residential developments. It was founded by Barney Allam and has been operating since 1991. The company is headquarted in Sydney, New South Wales with other bases on the NSW Central Coast, Gosford and Blue Mountains. The company has planned to build more than 600 homes in 2003. In order to realize its business targets, Allam Homes, employs over 100 people of high scientific standards and applies the latest technology solutions found in the global market. In this report the following will be covered. • Allam’s Business Activities • Reccomended expansions on web related options • Analysis of present electronic payment mechanisms • Type of E payment mechanisms • Reccomendations using EDI based solutions in conducting B2B activities • Reccomendations to successfully implement five pillars of security • Reccomendation of future IT infrastructure changes for a successful web based operation • Analysis of security threats • Policy ( disaster recovery plan, security policy, different web policies) • Regulations (state, national and international) Highlight on the E-business activities that they are already engaged in The Allam Group introduced Electronic commerce in 1994 to reduce reliance on an increasingly cumbersome paper based system. They have introduced a company website with customer service facilities, which has increased the efficiency of information distributed to suppliers, contractors and customers. E-commerce has allowed Allam to improve the company’s ability to communicate with customers and staff. The second stage involved enhancing the website for interactivity and provision of project information exchange with suppliers and customers. This also incorporated the development of an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system whereby supplier orders are placed online and each product’s delivery progress can be tracked online via the Internet. The broadband connection has allowed real-time information exchange with suppliers. Also during this phase, Allam Homes implemented processes whereby all documentation was created and managed electronically. This included the use of electronic documents such as Acrobat PDF format. This ensured that each document was both the latest version and readable.
