West Nile Report
“Mosquito-borne West Nile Virus Links Humans to Bird Ecology” is an article written by Matt Pelikan, the editor of the magazine Winging It. The article presents information about the origin of the West Nile Virus and its current effects on the ecosystem, especially birds and humans. The West Nile Virus was discovered three years ago in North America. Research of the virus has proved that it is transmitted from infected birds to humans and animals through the bite of mosquitoes. However, how these birds may have become infected is still unknown. The spread of the West Nile Virus has been found in nearly every corner of the nation. This is due to the migratory habits of birds. Cold weather will kill any mosquitoes that can carry the West Nile Virus. The virus is carried by infected migrant birds to their winter destinations.
