MARXISM Karl Marx (1818 to 1883) was a German philosopher who founded the ideology of Marxism with Fredrich Engelo. He spent most of his life living in great poverty in Britain as a political exile from Germany. Marx met Engelo after reading one of his articles in a magazine to which they both contributed. Marxism lead to the development of communism - an extreme left wing ideology based on the principle that there is no private ownership of property or production.
