Racism in Huck Finn
Racist of Not? One of the most controversial books of all time is Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn. Huck Finn uses the “N” word over 200 times and has been banned from many public schools all over the United States. Many people have asked the question, is Huck Finn a racist book that portrays negative views of African Americans? Also many wonder whether Mark Twain was a racist man. Although there are many racists comments in Mark Twains book “Huckleberry Finn,” the book isn’t racist because it shows multi-cultural races being friends, it aids the reader into understanding the book and it also portrays how life was really back in the 19th century. Huck Finn shows how life was back in the early 1800’s and how black people were viewed. This is shown when Mark Twain makes Jim superstitious about bad luck brought by the snakeskin and making him thinking he was encountered by the devil when it was really Tom playing a trick.
