ALCOHOLISM Every year, over 100,000 people die from alcoholism, making it the third leading cause of preventable mortality in the United States. Drinking alcoholic beverages heavily has major impacts on every aspect of a person's life. Yet, even knowing the possible dangers to their health or social life, over 14 million people in our country have drinkin problems, not including the 31% of high school seniors who say that they drink heavily. Even thought alcoholism is a major problem in America today, it is still influenced widely around the country. Practices of parents, or parental alcoholism can influence teenagers to drink. Also, many teens are convinced to drink merely through peer pressure or simply watching others drink. Many alcoholic beverages are advertised on television, giving the illusion that drinking makes a person more attractive, or socially acceptable.
