Outside my academics, I have chosen to live a majority of my life dancing. On average, I dance 17 hours a week. Dance has become a very important part of who I am, and has shaped me in many ways. I feel that when I decided seven years ago to start dancing, I gave myself the opportunities to experience life’s lessons in a whole other aspect. I have benefited a great deal from dance that I feel will help me throughout life. It has bestowed upon me many characteristics: organization and time management skills, motivation and dedication, focus and discipline, and lastly team and leadership skills. For the past three years, I have chosen to be involved in many activities: school, work, and my favorite, dance. After 30 hours of school, 10 hours of studying, 20 hours of work a week, I still manage to have my fun and dance. Every morning before school I wake up at 5:45 to attend a two-hour mandatory dance practice for my schools’ team. I also go to a dance studio in my local town and dance on their team for 6 hours a week. I do this because in order to do what I love and achieve the physical and spiritual happiness I have to make some choices in how I spend my time. I have to manage my time with school, studying to keep up my 3.8 GPA, work, and still dance. Consequently, I sometimes have to put my social life at the bottom of my importance list. I feel the management skills I have learned will help me greatly as I approach my college adventure for I am quite aware of the many things that will be thrown at me, and the many tasks I am going to have to juggle while acquiring my education.
