The natural bond that exists between a parent and child are fundamental in classical Greek Mythology. Familial relationships exude an important characteristic in heroism, which is visible in both Homer's Odyssey and Hymn to Demeter. Telemachos, of the Odyssey, departs on a physical journey in which he attempts to find his father while at the same time, embarks on a spiritual journey in which he undergoes the process of maturation. Persephone, of The Hymn to Demeter, clearly focuses on the process of child maturation, yet does this in the absence of the parent as she discovers her identity after being abducted by Hades.
