Hamlet
Hamlet’s story was both a tragedy and a failure because of the many losses he both emotionally and physically endured. In addition, Hamlet failed to avenge his father successfully without harming himself. Hamlet’s father, the king of Denmark, died suddenly and Hamlet’s uncle, Claudius, then married Hamlet’s mother. Since he married the queen, Claudius assumed the throne, throwing the whole country into disarray. The throne, however, was rightfully Hamlet’s. After this, Hamlet has visions of his late father’s ghost telling him that his death was not natural, unlike what was reported, and was instead a murder. Hamlet then swore revenge on the unknown culprit. But rather than taking instant measures on this revenge, Hamlet instead pretended to be insane in order to mask an investigation of the accusation brought to him by his father’s ghost. The investigation leads to Claudius being named the murderer. However, knowing this, Hamlet put on an “antic disposition” and delayed the killing of Claudius. This delay therefore was the cause of his failure to acquire the crown and get his revenge.
